Safety First

As most of you know, I worked for some years in the construction industry. And one of the most important aspects of construction is safety. There have too many occupational deaths and accidents for us not to take precautions.

One of the most basic and common safety equipment is safety glasses. It may look simple but in construction and manufacturing business, it can sometimes save your eyes and eyesight. Discount Safety Gear provides the most affordable and widest range of personal protection equipment including such brands like starlite safety glasses and the popular jackson safety glasses. They also carry other important equipment like harnesses, belts and hard hats.

53 Years and Looking Ahead

Strange, isn’t it? 53 years have past since that fateful day at the stadium, and we’ve come a long way since then. Some much for the better, and so much for the worse.

In some ways things are going to get worse, that much is evident. This can be seen by the rising number of hate crimes and the wave of migration out by our best and brightest.

Sigh. We can only do what we can in our limited capacity.

Driving Long Distance

With the completion of the North South Highway back in the mid 90′s, the entire landscape of travelling in the West can be altered permanently. Gone are the days of travelling on old single lane trunk roads and coastal roads, spending hours behind slow lorries and risking your lives each time you want to overtake a stretch of cars and slower vehicles.

With the highway, everything is much easier and faster, but it has its own breed of problems. Drowsiness and speeding, those are the two most common ones.

World Without End

I’ve been reading World Without End, Ken Follett’s massive sequel to his (equally massive) book Pillars of the Earth. Its more than 1200 pages long, so i won’t even bother to summarize the long and convulted plot here.

It is set in medieval England, around 1337 up until 1361. Follett’s description of life back then is really riveting, but one thing that struck me was even back then, they valued and treasured gold as much as we do. Gold was used to make precious coins used by royalty, it was made into ornaments and icons used in the cathedral.

Today, we don’t deal much in religious iconography anymore, but gold is still as precious as ever. You can still buy gold coins as an investment through the United States Gold Bureau.

Basic Driving Skills

If you are backing out of a parking bay and have obstructed line of sight, go slow and anticipate coming cars. Is that so difficult? You’d think everyone who has a driver’s licence would know and practice that.

But no. The number of accidents I’ve seen is astounding. Maybe these people need to go back for a refresher course.

Reading Mojo

I took a break from reading 2 months ago, and found it was difficult to get back into the groove of reading again. I picked up a book, but found trouble trying to get back into the rhythm of reading continuously.

But I persevered with the book, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, and it didn’t let me down. The book had a fantastic ending, and was well worth my time to finish it. Anyway, now I’m back to reading a book a week.

SeaHag and Eugene the Jeep

Long ago when i was a kid, i read this old Popeye comic book about the SeaHag who kidnapped Eugene the Jeep to look for gold. Eugene, the silent cuddly animal, as you know, has a nose for buried gold. So the story goes that SeaHag sets sail with Eugene, lands on this island, digs for the gold, and finds out that its Fort Knox and she’s just excavated gold bars.

Funny stuff, but there’s no escaping the fact everyone covets gold. Why? Because its precious and symbolizes riches and power. From the dawn of man’s civilization, people have had this high regard for gold. Now you can buy gold coins as a form of investment from the United States Gold Bureau, who are the best and biggest dealer in gold coins and ingots.

Social Media Games

If you follow social media gaming websites like Inside Social Media, time and time again they address the issue whether these simple click and wait games can be considered truly games at all or not.

Hardcore gamers don’t even consider them games, but the fact remains that millions and millions of them play these games on a daily basis on platforms such as MySpace, Facebook and phones. For me, the fact that its free is one good thing. I can play as many as i like, I just don’t spend cash to buy whatever good stuff they want you to buy.

Are they enjoyable? That’s pretty relative, but being limited by the platform they operate on, their functionality is rather limited and not real time.

True Blood Season 3

Its back. The HBO series, True Blood, that is.

I’m currently at my third episode now, not even halfway through the season. Frankly, I’m not so sure why I am watching it anymore, I was immensely disappointed by the second season. The first was awesome, so maybe there’s a tinge of hope that this year it’ll recapture that magic from the early days.

First off, there seem to be werewolves now, where there were maenids last season. I mean, really? Werewolves? And I thought Twilight milked that cliche dry.

Money Making Ventures and Investments

Over the years, I have heard and seen many different types of investment proposals. Some had sound financial foundation and good prospects, some a little more hare-brained and ‘out there’ than the rest. Some were derivatives of established companies, some were just two-bit companies set up the day before.

But it only underscores the fact that everyone is looking for ways and means to make money, and in the same manner secure their financial freedom. While most of these means may be legal, whether its viable or not depends a lot on many, many factors.

But what you can count on is the price of gold. Gold has been around since the dawn of civilization, its form and use hasn’t changed at all. People still value it above all other materials. That’s why you buy buy gold coins, it has an assured value and return for your money.
