PS3 Worldwide Crash

A friend of mine was ranting on facebook that while he was happily playing Heavy Rain on his beloved PS3, sometime went awfully wrong, his system shut down and he couldn’t play.  He was thus venting his frustration online for awhile.

A little later he posted on FB regarding the issue. Apparently PSN website posted an updated on the error. It didn’t really say much, except that they were working hard on restoring the system and it only affecting the ‘fat’ PS3 models and not the newer, slim versions. A few days later I read on Digg that the reason for this error was a leap year programming error – the system wrongly assumed 2010 to be a leap year and added a 29 Feb instead of moving on to 1 Mar. Sort of a different Y2K problem, heheh.

You’d think a piece of equipment as sophisticated as the PS3 would not suffer this trivial problem, what more by a giant like Sony. But i guess that’s technology for you.
